Growing up in Bermuda, Sam started scuba diving at the young age of 11 with Triangle Diving and was instantly hooked on all things diving. In a short amount of time Sam became the youngest Divemaster and then Instructor on the island. The knowledge and experiences gained at this point in Sam’s career sparked enthusiasm for both safety and high quality training, the foundations which now lay at the heart of EcoDive. Outside of diving Sam is passionate to be out on the water either paddle boarding or kayaking. More recently, Sam has taken up Wing Foiling as a hobby. If you can’t see him on the water then he’ll probably be off exploring the island's many caves or cleaning up the local beaches and mangrove areas.
Sam Bennett
OWNER / INSTRUCTOR
Growing up in Bermuda, Sam started diving underwater at 11 and never resurfaced. He became the island’s youngest Divemaster and Instructor, turning a childhood passion into a life’s calling.
Now, as Chief of the Ocean Passport program, he invites you to join the privileged 5% of visitors who truly experience Bermuda.
When not guiding divers, you’ll find him wing-foiling, exploring hidden caves, or leading beach cleanups—living every dive above the surface too.

Abi is from Devon (UK) and learnt to dive age 11, having always loved the ocean. Diving off Plymouth caused her to fall in love with shipwrecks and enjoy even the coldest of English winter in the water. Abi has been instructing for 5 years, primarily in Perth, Western Australia, where she also completed a Marine Science degree and does a variety of scientific diving. She is a passionate Technical and Cave diver but also loves to grab her go pro and explore shallow reefs. If she is not underwater, you will most likely find Abi chasing the sun or the snow. She loves backcountry skiing and hiking.

Hey! I’m JD—scuba diving instructor, ocean addict, and lifelong explorer of the deep. I’m passionate about sharing the magic of the underwater world while helping others discover the beauty, wonder, and importance of protecting our oceans. Whether I’m guiding new divers through their first breaths below the surface or leading seasoned adventurers into the blue, every dive is a chance to inspire care for the marine world. I took my first dive at just 10 years old, and from that moment, I was hooked—drawn in by the ocean’s beauty, mystery, and incredible marine life. By 18, I’d earned my Divemaster certification, eager to share my fascination with others. I started my journey teaching teens through a charity that introduced young people to scuba diving, helping them build confidence and explore the underwater world. At university, I studied marine science and biology, deepening my understanding of the ecosystems I’d always admired. By 20, I became an Open Water Scuba Instructor as well as a First Aid and CPR Instructor, continuing to teach and mentor young divers. Since then, I’ve broadened my experience—guiding certified divers, leading tourist dives, and sharing the magic of the ocean with people from all walks of life. I later joined the Bermuda Coastguard, where I specialized in police and emergency response diving and eventually became an instructor for their team. Whether diving feels peaceful or thrilling, I have an abiding respect and admiration for the sea and all it holds. Teaching scuba continues to bring me joy—I get to relive the wonder of my first dives through the eyes of new and returning divers alike. Every dive, every student, every shared moment underwater reminds me why I love what I do—and why protecting our oceans matters.

Nathan Frick, born and raised in Bermuda, is a seasoned diver with over 15 years of professional experience. His diving journey began at 14, following in the footsteps of his father who himself was an accomplished divemaster. At 18, Nathan first received his professional dive rating as a PADI Dive Master while working at Triangle Diving and became an instructor the following year. It was here where he first met a young and ambitious Sam Bennett who was just finishing up his rescue diver certification. Since 2022, he has transitioned to join the SDI family as an instructor, now under the tutelage of Sam. Nathan currently holds a full-time position as a Maritime Enforcement Officer with the Bermuda Coast Guard. Additionally, he serves as an ERDI instructor and is the second in command for their Operational Support Divers Subunit, responsible for training and equipment management. Outside of diving, Nathan holds a degree in Geography and Environmental Science from Wilfrid Laurier University. He is also dedicated to inspiring others about the marine environment, volunteering with the Bermuda Zoological Society on various projects. Nathan is excited about sharing his love for the ocean with his two young children, ages 5 and 1, and continues to contribute to marine research and conservation efforts in his community.
